Search Definitions

• A keyword search will find entries in which the keyword is either
  
  • anywhere in the specified field (for author, title and subject searches) or
  • anywhere at all in an entry (for the general "keyword search").
  If more than one keyword is entered, the search will return only those records that contain all of the keywords (implied Boolean "and").
  
  
• A browse search will identifies entries that begin with the same letters as are entered in the search box.

• Use of the wildcard symbol–the percent sign (%)–will expand a keyword search. The wildcard may be used at the beginning of a word, in the middle of a word, or at the end of a word. It will stand for any number of letters, character or spaces. For example:
• "Je%n" will retrieve entries that include the words "Jean" or "Jernigan"
• "Blind%" will retrieve entries that include the words "Blind" or "Blindness"
• "%sen" will retrieve entries that include the words "Jacobsen," "Nielsen," or "Petersen"
